The Seattle Times — Creating a game room your friends, family will love

Amber Katz, The Seattle Times

Have you been daydreaming about adding a game room to your home? There’s something so special about having a dedicated space for fun that your family and friends will love. Amber Katz at The Seattle Times rounded up some great tips from local experts to help you maximize this space (myself included)!

Here are some snippets from the article:

“Adding lockable casters to heavy game tables and incorporating lightweight, easy-to-move chairs allow(s) you to easily transform the room into an open space for a virtual reality session — or (an) old school game of Twister.”

“There are some great game table options on the market that include multiple opportunities for gameplay from pool to foosball, to a solid table top for board games. When planning your game room, don’t forget the tunes. You’ll want easy access to music playlists, a good speaker system, and perhaps even a tabletop disco ball, which adds a dance party vibe to your room.”

Make the most of your materials and textiles. Depending on the types of games that will be played in the space, your textiles can really create the perfect mood. For a cozy feel, Kluetz Pernell says to bring in lots of layered textures, soft textiles, and lamps for dim lighting.”

“For a dark, pool bar vibe, for example, you can incorporate leather, brick, and neon art.”
